And something that doesn't happen enough, standing up for his young superstar team mate, Zimmerman drills the PITCHER Hamels as payback.
I know you can't do it in the AL with the DH but there'd be many less HPBs if payback was hitting the pitcher that hit your mate.

All part of the game - nicely done.
And even better, the umpire doesn't make a big song and dance about it. He casually pointed at both dugouts about the warning.

So who decides who gets thrown at in Australia?

Dunno, I was never good enough to get thrown at ... or good enough to hit anyone I threw at either.

So who decides who gets thrown at in Australia? I would suggest the person getting thrown at has the greatest influence on such a decision...

Perfect explanation and majority of baseball players and fans will agree with him.
Thankfully, Hamels hit him exactly where he aimed and nowhere near the head. Never any doubt that he was sending a message.
I like Harpers hustle, is good to see and refreshing in these days usual jogging that MLB players do. But...... He will soon work out that there are 162 games in a season and good reason why guys don't always bust out of the box like a high school player with too much goo in their junk.
My Mrs even stops cooking dinner to come watch Harpers highlights on SportsCenter / Baseball Tonight "this kid is a freak".

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo told The Washington Post that Hamels hitting Harper with a pitch was "classless" and "gutless."
According to the newspaper's website, Rizzo also said: "Cole Hamels says he's old school? He's the polar opposite of old school. He's fake tough. He thinks he's going to intimidate us after hitting our 19-year-old rookie who's eight games into the big leagues? He doesn't know who he's dealing with."
I like the final sentence from GM Rizzo in his statement above. Kind of gets you thinking that this isn't going to be left at a purpose pitch and welcome to the big leagues. Thats my take on it.

And Hamels got a 5-game suspension which for a Pitcher is just a wrap over the knuckles but clearly his Manager wishes he had of kept us all guessing as to his motive and not tell the media !
Gee it was great to watch though wasnt it - particularly when Harper later stole home ;-)
