With increasingly more of our young players heading overseas to attend college and to further their baseball along the journey, we are aiming to develop and maintain a list of those players so that people can follow their progress. To help us update the "honour roll" (or make corrections), please PM us or post below this list any other known Victorian and his college connection, if possible with a website link. KC, how about we make this a bit interactive and the lads at college can tell us about their fall training as most of them wouldn't have done anything like they will in the next 3 months, VIS and State not withstanding, Juco fall is the worst or best for physical conditioning. Sam Moon is probably the first for the big up and under but there will be many not far behind so let us know what your fall sessions are like, let's see who's got the hardest workouts.

Myself & Josh Bride are at Western Nebraska (with Tim Beard (Soph LHP) from ACT, and Max Brennen (Fresh MIF) from NSW).
We had our first fall practise yesterday. Consisted of us learning all of our warm-up routines, stretches, throwing programs, etc. Pitchers worked on a specific throwing program, as well as pitching drills, working on mechanics and long-toss, as well as showing us what abs stuff we need to do, etc. Position players did throwing program for them, as well as BP, some infield-outfield stuff, and some base-running. Reasonably relaxed first day, more an introduction to the expectations and stuff we need to do at trainings. At the end of training, a few of us pitchers did some running.
Today we had our first scrimmage. 30 guys or so on our roster atm. We went through all of our warm-up/stretching stuff again. Scrimmages are a chance for hitters to get some ABs, see some pitches, get some work in the field (playing against each other). Pitchers throwing 3 innings each, for as many pitches as needed (unless we cant get out of it, and there's a few guys that can come in to throw a little if needed).
Scrimmaging tomorrow (Saturday), and Sunday too. I'm going off tomorrow, be good to get some cobwebs out, hopefully throw some strikes (pitchers struggled with that today). We have a pretty small team, but alot of guys can flat out run! A couple of guys can hit with some pop, and it will be interesting to see them once they get more ABs.
Next couple of weeks we head on the road a little, play some practise games vs some other schools. The highlight will be going to University of Nebraska (Cornhuskers), and playing on their field (not against them, thank god!). Playing some other JUCO's, and some club teams here and there.
That's about all I can think of atm, i'll try and answer any questions if anyone has any.

Awsome stuff Lando, it's great to hear how it's going but I do believe you blokes (pitchers) get it pretty easy in conditioning, so the position guys say anyway good luck for tomorrow, fill it up, wow, wait till you see Nebraska and let us know how you go.

We started out on thursday by having a basic conditioning test which involved 7 different aspects. On friday we had our first practice which consisted of learning the warm up routines, pitchers just throwing short pens to get the rust off and position players just took some bp. Today we did defensive work which was just like an infield outfield just with 38 guys. We have our first fall game on the 29th which is against a high school prospect team. We play at Oklahoma State University in about 3 weeks against other jucos.
hey oldracer what do ya mean by ''the first big up and under''?

Haha Moony that sucks... How did JJ and Laney handle it?
Today we had to be at the field by 1pm, on the field, ready to go. A couple of guys got there late, so they had to do "4-3-2-1's", whilst everyone else did 3 laps of the field (our warm-up). They then had to do our warm-up too. Then we did our stretching program, and some explosive sprinting stuff, before throwing.
Myself and another guy were the first 2 pitchers to throw, going against each other for the first 3 innings of the game. He kept a shutout for 3 innings, hit his spots pretty good. Spotted his fastball, didnt have a great curve, but located it well.
I on the other hand, gave up 3 runs in my 3 innings. Had a 5-pitch 2nd inning, but my 3rd inning I struggled. I had trouble locating my FB, but my curve-ball was good.
After pitching, we get to have a quick break, before running in the 40 degree heat for 30 mins non-stop (laps of the baseball & softball fields). Felt very dizzy, light-headed, luckily managed to avoid a chunder (though I felt close at times). Could have been due to dipping the first time last night...
After our 30 min run, we do medicine ball work, and then alot of abs stuff... That nuts killed me! Then after that, pitchers were done..
Meanwhile, another couple guys had thrown 3 innings, then gone for their run (as well as other pitchers, just to get some running in). After the scheduled pitchers had finished, the Asst. Coach (pitcher at Arizona, then a JUCO, then Iowa State), threw BP for the hitters who kept playing... The losing team then had to run "4-3-2-1"s at the end, before we packed up the field and went home.
Another training tomorrow, guys who havent pitched will throw, then soon they will give us a depth chart. The depth chart is where they show us how we are ranked for each position (guys at the top of each position, obviously the starters for each spot). We keep training every day, and we start weights after Labor Day Weekend (so about Sept. 7th).
I'll try and get a photo of our baseball field (gotta show the fam). Our grass is pretty long, equivalent of playing at LaTrobe Uni, but the field is pretty good. 330 down each line, 405 to centre I think. The fence is wooden, and has a couple holes in it haha. But still a good field.

Great post Lando, sounds like your fall has started seriously now, most of the other pitchers on your roster would be in pretty good nick as they have just finished their summer seasons. Let us know what you think of the velo of your guys, what you expected?? Is it still hot where you are?? You in dorms or apartments, go get 'em!!

Lando, JJ tweaked his hammy during the testing but its only a 1-2 weeker and kaney didnt get in untill after the testing but he is still recovering from shoulder surgery.
Sunday we got the day off so we took full advantage of that and did nothing. Monday we had our first 6am conditioning session. We had to run around the school in under 4 minutes (it was about 1km max) and if you didnt get it then you had to do another lap. Then we did lunges about 35 meters up and back with our hands on our heads. Another lap of the school after that but in 4 minutes 30 seconds or less with my legs feeling like jelly. Then it was reverse lunges for 35 meters up and back with our hands on our heads and then just a warm down lap at your own pace. We also started school today and have training and physicals this afternoon.

That sucks about JJ... Softc**k! Haha.
Glad you guys got the day off, we still had scrimmages on Sunday. There are 3 hitting teams (4/5 guys in each team), and they swap thru the hitting in their teams. Josh & Max (other Aussie) were on the same team yesterday, and unfortunately for them, the other 2 teams got gifted alot of runs (one team scored 7 runs in 1 inning on 2 hits....). At the end of the scrimmages, the 3 teams run, but the 2 teams that lose have to run the difference between them and the team that wins.. Final scores were 17-13-7. Josh's team came last, and that included getting 6 in the 2nd last. Their running was "Triangles", and they had to have each one done in under 90 seconds, which took it out of them. I can't remember how many they had to do, but it was still 39-40 degrees, so doing a bunch of them in that heat looked tough (pitchers do their own program, so dont do same running as position players atm).
Josh has been catching pretty well, he blocks the ball well, and throws the ball well, and has done that here. Has been getting a few hits too. Unfortunately, one of the other catchers yesterday (same height as Josh), hit about 3 or 4 doubles (one hit the fence on the full), a jack over our scoreboard, and a single or two... He crushed everything!
Today our proper training starts, where the coaches start to instruct us more and more (as opposed to just letting us show what we could do on the weekend). Our head coach went to Emporia State University (one of the top D2 programs, generally ranked in the top 5), and our asst. coach/pitching coach was at Iowa State... So they certainly know alot about the game!

Pretty nice field, grass is a little long, but it's a nice field. Pitcher's Mound to Home Plate, with the Grandstand behind it... I think that's the equivalent of our crowds during the year from what I hear!

Nuthin better for a pre-game warmup Lando than scraping ice off the ground to get a game on!!!! puts a different perspective to ground preparation.

Nice looking field lando and it'll get better aswell.
Ok so all this week we have had 6am conditioning which to be honest has been good to get it out of the way and not have to do it in the afternoon heat. On Tuesday for conditioning it absolutely pissed down so we went indoors to the basketball court and did sprints whilst getting reads off of pitchers and learning about timeing techniques to get good jumps to steal a base. We were supposed to have an intersquad scrimmage on Tuesday arvo but the field was unplayable. Wednesdays conditioning was more sprint work but this time it was outside and longer distances. We started out about 60 feet sprints and moved back to about 140 feet. Everytime the distance got increased we had to do 50 crunches while coach moved back. After that it was 3 laps of the school but on the shorter sides we had to backpedal which was about 55 meters and just run the long sides and in the afternoon we jumped in pool for some more work which was brutal. After swimming we had our intersquad scrimmage which was good to be able to see some live pitching again. The pitchers threw about 2 innings each and then did there poles. Looks like we have some quality arms this year and we only have 1 sophmore pitcher and he is coming off shoulder surgery so looks luke we will have good freshman staff with whoever makes the team. The hitters looked good aswell with a few of them driving the ball out of the park and hitting long doubles and a few triples.
Thursday mornings conditioning was probably the toughest of the week. We had to side shuffle about 8 meters up and back for 1 minute intervals as fast as we could go with 20 second brakes in between. We did about 20 of these and then 2 laps of the school. After the 2 laps we started doing some squats that you had to keep your legs horizontal to the ground and stay there like that for 1 minute and then 20 seconds rest and we did about 8 of them. My legs felt like jelly after that! At practice in the afternoon we just took some np on the field and also took some grounders. Friday morning was called a lake run which is a 2 mile run down to the lake in El Reno near the school and back so it was just a light session. At practice we took infield outfield and then played 2 pitch which is just like coach pitch. We got 6 outs per innings and started with a one an one count and the winners got to go home while the losers (which I was one of) had to clean up the field and also the locker room and indoor batting cages.
Today we had the morning off and had to be at the field ready to go at 8 30 which felt like a sleep in! We worked on 1st and 3rds aswell as some bunt defences. Tomorrow we play our first fall game against a Oklahoma high school prospect team which should be competitive and I'm looking forward to it alot.

Haha well played P26, though now I know what you were doing on Saturday afternoon...
And sadly, I do have a girl back home, so i'm strictly on a wing-man status. Sorry to disappoint (you wont be the first/the last people I disappoint with that)..
Though I do love the lack of drinking ability these guys have... Me and Bridey have learnt the art of Beer Pong, and are now legit!

Ok, quick update.
We got given a depth chart after our scrimmages/first practises. This told us in every position, who was ranked where. I pitched ok, but not great, so was down in the bottom half (closer to the bottom). Most of the sophomores were at the top, and a few freshmen who did well.
Last Friday we went and played 2 of our conference rivals in practise games in Denver. We beat Lamar 4-3 (last year's Conference champs), and then Trinidad by about 3 runs. I went on the trip, but didn't pitch due to being down the bottom of the rotation. Josh Bride caught against Trinidad in game 2, caught pretty well, swinging the bat well they're just not falling in (drawing some walks though).
On Thursday we played against Colorado State University's club team (they aren't in the NCAA, and fund themselves, made up purely of guys that go to the school). Some of them could rake, and others were very average. I surprisingly threw the last inning, started off well, then got myself into trouble, and then got myself back out. Coaches said i'd picked up about 3-5 mph just from making a couple of adjustments to mechanics, and looked good, just needed to relax. We ended up winning the doubleheader. Josh caught in the 2nd game, got another walk, and maybe a hit (i can't quite remember). He's been catching pretty well. The catcher for us in game 1 hit a jack (after the batter before him did, Max Brennen from Sydney). Then in game 2 he DH'ed, and hit another jack...
So atm, we are 4-0 in our praccy games, playing against McCook (another conference team) on Sunday in a doubleheader at home. We started 6am weights on Monday, I have never been so sore in my life.
All in all, i'm having alot of fun, and so are the other boys, and we just look forward to playing baseball every day!
