if they make Div 1 a 12 team comp then they will definately need to look at a top 6 and bottom 6 after Xmas.

Chards, we used to have very different league structure. 12 teams start the season in Div1, (8 in Div 2 I think) after the first 7 games (I tihnk) the bottom 4 in Div1 would drop off and join with the top four from the Div 2 first half, to form a new Div2. Div2 season would start again for these clubs. The remaining 8 in Div1 would then fight it our for the title. Should have seen the mess if left in the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths. After the pennant committee stopped putting LSD in their coffees, we reverted to the current structure.
You should have seen the final system... round robin, first to win 2 would go through, top ranked team only had to win once, other team had to win once... I think... all so vague, a bit like a flashback.

It was crazy. And you saw so many mid-season movements as well. I was one player who left their club at the end of the relegation rounds to go and play at a div 1 club. Very strange to start a season with a club, have them dropped a division and then go and start again with another club before xmas.
Oh, and finals, you had to lose two games. Was ridiculous. I remember at least one year where Moorabbin beat Waverley in the grand final, only to lose the replay the following week and end up with second place as a result. Not even a deciding third game!!

Sounds stupid...
I have to admit, my idea is taken from when I played in Holland. They had their "Head Class" and then "1st Class" - mainly Div 1 and Div 2.
There were 8 teams in Head Class and 10 in 1st class. I think we played about 18 games then then it was split again. The top 6 in the Head Class would play only against the top 6 for the remaining 18 games and the bottom 2 of Head Class would play against the top 6 of the 1st class. At the end of the season they played a best of 7 finals (pretty sure, may have been 3) but the first class didnt play any finals. The top two teams went into the Head Class for the start of the next season.
We suggestion was that between the Xmas break, the top 2 Div 2 teams come up and play the 2nd half of the season against the bottom 4 Div 1 teams - this gives the Div 2 teams a chacne to actually win some games and get some confidence without getting smacked around by the Essendons, Blackburns and Waverley's. It also gives the top 6 teams a chance to play top level baseball EVERY weekend - could you imagine a comp with only Blacky, Waverley, Essendon, Malvern, Doncaster and Geelong in it (going off last seasons top 6) - a tough game every weekend for those clubs.
End of season you have best of 3 finals. Being a top 6 - only the top 3 make finals. Minor premiers go straight into the Grand Final and 2nd and 3rd play a best of three - winner plays Minor Premier in the Grand Final in a best of three final.
