Looking at winter LGA (council), total teams (senior and junior) and clubs. Greater Geelong is 55 km from top to bottom and covers a much larger area then any of the more urban councils. For example Forest Hill is only 5kms from Maroondah, and would boost teams in that council area to 37.5.
LGA Teams Club Greater Geelong 32 6 Kingston 31.5 5 Maroondah 25.5 3 Banyule 24 5 Boroondara 19 3 Mornington 15 2 Monash 13 3 Nillumbik 12 2 Knox 11.5 2 Whitehorse 11.5 1 Frankston 9.5 1 Moreland 9 1 Port Phillip 8 2 Manningham 7.5 1 Cardinia 7 1 Casey 7 1 Greater Dandenong 7 1 Melbourne 7 1 Moonee Valley 6.5 1 Hobsons Bay 6 2 Darebin 5.5 2 Maribyrnong 5 1 Mitchell 5 1 Wyndham 5 1 Ballarat 4 2 Colac Otway 2 1 Whittlesea 2 1 Bayside 1 1 Brimbank 1 1 Moorabool 1 1
Regions Region Teams E 92 SE 78 NE 34 G 33 N 32 W 21 R 11
With G for Geelong and R for rural teams (ie Broadford, Colac) East dominates in team numbers based on region.
League Clubs Teams CW 7 32 D 12 79 DV 13 67.5 G 13 43 R 12 79.5
Breaking Seniors based on Junior breakdown of MWBL.
I have presumed that Newport Seniors and Hobsons Bay Juniors are effectively one club.

Well Newby, that is a mighty effort that you have done. It just goes to prove that nothing has really changed when it comes to the demographics of the baseball population. If only the powers to be would understand that, then and only then will they maximise the full baseball possibilities of promoting an ABL side in the South East. One in Geelong and one on the South East would make a lot more sense and also create that cross town rivalry.
