Round 13 hopefully will enjoy better weather than last week. First up we have the local Derby between Bonbeach and Chelsea playing for bragging rights. Bonbeach have displayed good fighting qualities the last couple of weeks while Chelsea are still struggling coming to terms with A grade. m This being the case I will tip my hat towards a Bonbeach win. Dandenong host Berwick in the second of the local derbies in which this game shapes as a finals defining game for Berwick, a loss in this game and Berwick's chances take a real nose dive. The Dandy boys are travelling along nicely and should be to all round in the hitting and defence and should take the points. The next local Derby is between Dingley hosting Cheltenham. Cheltenhams season has been rather up and down like a brides nighty. On the other hand Dingley have been quite consistent in their play under Jack Larner and should be good enough to take the points. Finally the last of the derbies is between Mornington and Boneo for the Neil Williams Cup. The Pirates have been playing very solid ball while Boneo making a great fist of this season in A Grade will run into some very quality opposition. This in mind, I will tip Mornington to get up. Frankston have the bye this week. In B Grade we have Berwick playing Dandenong with Dandy taking the points. Pakenham take on Dingley and should win comfortably and finally Frankston head of to Upwey with Upwey hoping to keep their finals chances alive. With that said, Frankston to stay undefeated. Have a good weekend Boofa

With Brad Egan conceding a solitary hit in the GBA match of the round, Guild blanked Bellarine 6-0 to firm as favourite for another A Grade title, while second-placed Newport held off Deakin 6-5 in a thriller at the Ram Dome. Recovering twice from a deficit, Mounties headed Colac 6-4 when it mattered in an evenly-matched affair played in great spirit at a chilly Prince of Wales, while Saints downed Lara 6-4 in a similarly tight contest. Six appeared to be the catch-phrase of the day - for the winners at least - and six degrees was about all that it reached for the Mounties versus Colac clash in Ballarat. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

Round 13 is now done and dusted and a little bit of clarity has arisen, but not much. In A grade We had Dingley playing the local Derby against Cheltenham and in a game that ebbed a little bit Dingley ran out winners 5 to 1. Next up we had the Mornington Peninsula Derby between Mornington and Boneo playing for the Neil Williams Cup. In a one sided affair Mornington ran out easy winners 10 to nil. In the true local Derby Chelsea crossed the road to Bonbeach in the battle for bragging rights. Bonbeach since the break have been very competitive and played improved baseball but it was Chelsea who came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to an early 10 to 3 lead and held on to a 10 to 6 victory. The last of the local derbies was the battle of the Princes Hwy between Dandenong and Berwick. In what was a cracker of a game with excellent pitching from both sides, Berwick kept their season alive with a fighting 1 to nil victory over the highly fancied Angels. Frankston had the bye this week. That leaves the four looking like this. Frankston 20 Dandenong 19 Mornington 17 Dingley 17 Berwick 15 Cheltenham 14 Bonbeach 7 Chelsea 6 In B grade we have only the one result thus far and it was a resounding win to Dingley over Pakenham 11 to 3 The other games between Frankston v Upwey and Dandenong v Berwick haven't been handed in yet. A bit slack if you ask me. The ladder in B Grade is incomplete at this stage Frankston 21 Pakenham 15 Dandenong 14 Berwick 9 Dingley 8 Upwey 7.
Till later in the week.

With the weather gods looking on somewhat more favourably than they have for weeks, GBA Round Fourteen was highlighted by another wonderfully successful “Go Pink for Cancer” Day and by another strong playing performance from Guild, which continues to set the pace in A Grade. Riding another stellar start by Brad Egan, the Lions scored early and exploited defensive miscues in a 7-2 result over Newport, which holds second on head-to head advantage over Bellarine, which was untroubled in its 16-2 home win against Colac. Cashing in on a welter of passes and HPBs conceded by Mounties, Lara scored early and iced the game 14-4 with a seven-spot in the fifth, while Deakin proved something of a party-pooper at Pioneer Park – at least onfield – by dealing an 8-3 loss to Saints and strengthening its hold on fourth. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/round-fourteen-2018

Saturday brought some clarity to the DBA making life difficult for some and the others left to lament another season. First up we had Cheltenham playing Berwick in what should have been a cracking game fizzled out to a 9 to 2 win for Cheltenham. This now leaves Cheltenham still a game and half out of the four while Berwick is now 2 games out. Next we had Dandenong taking on Chelsea, and after a struggle early, finished up winning comfortably 11 to 2, giving Dandenong top spot. Mornington took on BonBeach and after slow going early, got the bats going to record a comfortable 14 to 3 win. Finally we had Dingley visiting the Patch to take on Frankston. In a close tussle all game with both sides giving each ample opportunities to restrict the scoring but with some slow and at times unforced mistakes, Dingley finally prevailed in a tight game winning 9 to 7. The four is pretty much settled now with on top Dandenong 21 Frankston 20 Nornington 19 Dingley 19 Cheltenham 16 Berwick 15 Boneo 15 Chelsea 9 Bonbeach 7
In B Grade we had Frankston playing the Berwick Emeralds and with Frankston rarely getting out 2nd gear disposed the talented Womens side comfortably in the end 15 to 4. Upwey fighting to keep their season alive took on Pakenham and walked away with a much needed win 12 to 8. Finally Dandenong played Dingley and with Dandenong bursting Dingleys bubble to the tune of a 16 to 6 victory. The ladder is as follows Frankston 25 Dandenong 18 Pakenham 15 Berwick 9 Upwey 9 Dingley 8.
Till later in the week. Enjoy.

Round 15 can and will produce a few home truths this week and may finally define the final four for season 2018. From the top we have Berwick hosting Chelsea in which is a vital game for Berwick if they wish to still have a say in the finals. Chelsea have had their struggles and will compete, but I expect B erwick to win. Boneo take the trek down the highway to Dingley. The Dimgoes are travelling nicely at present while Boneo have made a real good fist of the A grade season so far. However I believe that Dingley will snatch the win. Next we have the age old rivalry between Frankston and Cheltenham. The Rustlers need the win while Frankston needs to win to stay top two. The Tomatoes will be smarting after last weeks loss to Dingley and have been more consistent that the up and Cheltenham and should take the points. In the game of the round Dandenong nick off down to Mornington in which should be a cracker of a game. Both sides complement their defence with very solid hitting. Morninton have been coming on very strong of late and Dandenong have been going along nicely. A toss of a coin and it came down Dandenong. In B Grade the spot for fourth place is hotting up with Berwick trekking out to Upwey to decide who gets fourth and possibly stay there. It has been a lonmg season so far for the Emeralds and are just struggling in the pitching department while Upwey hasn't really got out of first gear, but with a sniff of finals action might just find those extra gears and get up and win. Upwey in a close game. Next we have Dandenong hosting Pakenham. The Pumas have been stumbling of late and take on a well drilled Dandenong. Dandenong will be looking to consolidate second spot and should do so with a wim over Pakenham. Finally we have Frankston taking on Dingley in which the Tomatoes should continue on their merry way and take away the win. May te weather Gods be kind and the bats bigger than the balls and make sure the cane and the dog are left at the gate. Boofa.

Scattering three hits in a quality Geelong Baseball Association A Grade contest, Bellarine kept its double-chance prospects alive with a 4-0 win over Saints, while Newport overpowered Lara 11-3 to hold second and Deakin effectively stitched up fourth spot with a thumping 15-3 result over Mounties. It was a massive offensive day for the Lions against Colac, although much of the interest in this lop-sided contest was generated by the Guild trio of pitchers – two of whom were the already accomplished sibling sons before their father - former GBA superstar Bruce Wood - took the pill to close out the game 24-1 for the league leader. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

I will do the double whammy this week and give the results and this weeks predictions all in one hit. Last week we had Mornington beating Dandenong 4 nil, Cheltenham getting over Frankston 3 to 1. Dingley poured water over Boneo to the tune of 6 to 1 and Berwick defeated Chelsea 11 to 1. This weekend sees Frankston taking on Berwick in a must win game and with their fearless leader back should get up in an entertaining game. Next up we have Bonbeach hosting Dingley who are travelling nicely and should continue their upsurge and get over Bonny comfortably. Cheltenham take the long haul down to Boneo and on current form should account for Boneo. In a tight one Boneo to upset the Travelling Rustlers. Finally Mornington the red hot team of te comp at present take on Chelsea at Chelsea and should comfortably account for the Dolphins. Have a good weekend Boofa

Heavy scoring was de rigueur in Round Sixteen of the GBA this afternoon, with Lara Wildcats dealing a surprise 12-1 loss to Bellarine and Newport spanking Mounties 22-0. East Belmont Saints was untroubled in blanking Colac 18-0 and ladder-leading Guild rode another stellar Brad Egan outing to dispense with Deakin 8-1. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

Hell Sports fans, this weeks wrap up and predictions roll into Round 17 in the sporting fields of the DBA. Last week we had Dingley finally shaking off Bonbeach to the tune of 9 to 4. Cheltenham dined out on Boneo to win 10 to 1. Mornington had a field day against Chelsea racking up a 23 to 1 victory and finally in a seesawing game Frankston again went down in the last innings after leading by 3 runs to lose to Berwick 7 to 6. This week we have Mornington travelling to Berwick in what should be a tight tussle, but with Mornington bats being red hot at present the Pirates should take the game. Next we have Bonbeach nicking off down to Cheltenham in a game that Cheltenham must keep winning if they wish to keep their finals hopes alive. Bonbeach will be very competitive and will push Cheltenham. Chelt to win. Dandenong take on Dingley in the Match of the round. Dandenong will be looking to bounce back from their last game defeate and Dingley will be pressing to continue their good form. That said, I feel that Dandenong will just come out of this game just in front. Finally we have Boneo taking the drive doen the Penn Link to Frankston. Frankston will be looking for a much improved performance their team especially in finishing off games. Boneo have had a good year in A grade this year but I feel the Tomatoes have to much at stake and should take the points. In B grade last week Pakky defeated Berwick 3. Dandy 9 defeated Frankston 8 and Upwey and Dingley drew 7 all. This week we have Frankston travelling to Pakenham in which we would expect to have a Frankston win. Next we have Dandenong travelling to Upwey. Based on last weeks performances Dandy should get up, but with Upwey you just never know. And finally Dingley vist the Girls from Berwick and with this game I feel Dingley might win if an A grade throw drops down which I highly doubt so I will predict a draw. Good hunting this week and may the sun Gods smile upon us. Till Next week

Newport belted six in the last to set up its 12-5 A Grade win over league-leading Guild in the GBA this afternoon, while third-placed Bellarine smacked Colac 25-2. Continuing its recent offensive form, Lara blanked Mounties 16-0 and Deakin edged out Saints 5-3 in a terrific contest. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

Round 17 having been completed gave us some predictable results along with one out of the bag and a draw. In A grade we had Cheltenham lasting long enough to defeat Bonbeach in a rain shortened game 3 to nil. Next up we had Frankston playing Boneo and also in a rain shortened game prevailed to defeat Boneo 15 to Nil. Dandenong playing Dingley really made a statement for this time of the year by defeating Dingley 10 Nil and the last game between Mornington and Berwick resulted in a washed out 1 all draw. This leaves the top four looking like this Dandenong 25 Mornington 24 Dingley 23 Frankston 22 With just outside the four Cheltenham 22 Berwick 20 In B Grade there was only one game to get a start and that was Dingley 18 defeating Berwick 11. The other two games between Frankston @ Pakenham was hailed out and Dandenong @ Upwey rained out. The four on B Grade looks like this Frankston 27 Dandenong 20 Pakenham 19 Upwey 12 with Dingley just behind them Dingley 11 Berwick 9

Round 18 will either finalise or spring a suprise to complete the final four in A Grade. First up we have Chelsea playing Dingley. Chelsea have at times struggled to maintain an A Grade standard, they have persevered and will be better for it next season. Dingley have been rather consistent and should take this game comfortably. Next we have Bonbeach hosting Frankston. Bonbeach have shown glimpses of the good stuff but more often the bad side has emerged all to often. Frankston are playing for their season and shouldn't and won't let this game slip. Frankston to win. Mornington nick off down to Boneo for a final tune up before next week. Boneo for me have been the big improvers and have had their best season in A Grade ever. Mornington for me are the best all round team in the competition with their pitch strength and complete hitting to back up their solid defence. Mornington to keep rocking on. Finally the last game between Dandenong and Cheltenham is the other game that could have a bearing on the make up of the final four. Cheltenham have been very up and down with their form while Dandenong have been rather consistent. On that basis, Dandenong to win. In B grade we have Frankston hosting Upwey who need the win to stay in the four and keep Dingley at bay. They will be hard pressed to keep Frankston quite and with that Frankston should win. In the next game we have Pakenham taking on Dingley and with Pakenham needing a win to boost their confidence for the finals should be good for a win. Finally, we have Berwick playing Dandenong. The women from Berwick have played fine competitive baseball all season and should be proud of what they have achieved as a team. However, Dandy are tuning up for the finals and should be to good on the day. May the weather be good and the baseball better and the umpires been seen and not heard.
Till next week Boofa

Daunting as weather conditions were, Round Eighteen in the GBA produced two ripping A Grade contests that saw Guild muster four in the last to pinch a 7-5 thriller over Lara Wildcats and Bellarine edge out Newport 6-5 for a result that may yet require application of the tie-breaker to decide second placing (depending on results/scores in the last round next Saturday). In other games, fourth-placed Deakin found scoring tough going early before dispensing 11-0 with a gutsy Colac Braves, while Saints blitzed Mounties 23-1. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

With Round 18 in the DBA completed, the finals now begin. The results from Saturday threw up no real mind blowing results but however there was one feel good result. However in the previous post I had Mornington playing Boneo when it should have been Berwick and Berwick finished their season off as it started, indifferent by going down to a tenacious Boneo 5 to 1. Next we had Dingley visiting Chelsea and not just being happy with the invitation they handed out a good old fashion flogging to Chelsea to the tune of 20 to 1. Next Dandenong played Cheltenham and in a close game prevailed 12 to 10 and finally in a rain shortened game that went about 90 minutes, Frankston did enough hitting to defeat Bonbeach 9 to 2. The final now is thus Dandenong 27 Mornington 26 Dingley 25 Frankston 24 Good luck to those four sides in the finals next week. In B Grade nothing much changed from the last round. The results being as follows Frankston prevailing over Upwey 9 to 6, Dandenong 16 handing out a hitting lesson over Berwick 16 to 0 and Pakenham putting paid to Dingley's hopes with an emphatic 16 to 2 win. The final four being Frankston 30 Dandenong 23 Pakenham 22 Upwey 13. Good luck to all the sides this week in the finals.

The season as such has come to the pointy end of all the hard work. This week we have Dingley hosting Frankston in the 1st Semi Final in what should be a beauty. There hasn't been much between the two sides all year splitting the results one each. On any given day either side will be beat any side but tomorrow one will be looking to extend it's season. Just purely on the basis I have Tomato blood coursing through my veins and I have a gut feeling that Frankston will get up in a close game. In the 2nd Semi Final, the two form teams of A Grade Dandenong hosting Mornington should put on a clinic of Baseball skill. Both sides have excellent hitting and very fine pitching backed up by good defences. With that said, Mornington on a general poll have the more all round attacking and defensive skills to go a long way this season. Any side that wins this game on Sunday will give the flag a serious shake. With that all said and done, I will stick my neck out on this one and pick the Pirates. I am certain any side that is coached by Dave Clarkson will be up for the fight. I am expecting a close tussle. All the best for this weekend and congratulations to all the sides that made the finals in all grades. Till next week

The final regular season round in the GBA produced three ripping games - one with with bearing on structure of the final four. League-leading Guild smashed Mounties 18-3 and cellar-dwelling Colac finished its season positively with a 5-4 result over Lara. Real interest was in the other two games, which saw fifth-placed Saints force a 1-1 draw with Newport, who have edged into second by virtue of fourth-placed Deakin getting up 6-5 over Bellarine - who will finish in third. For the first week of finals, Guild will be at home to Newport in the Qualifying Final, while Bellarine will again host Deakin - this time in an Elimination Final. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

Semi Final weekend in the DBA brought great weather and at times good baseball. First up in A Grade we had Dingley hosting Frankston. In what was in essence going to be a good game somewhat went astray after Frankston took a 4 to 1 lead proceeded to amass an error count that was compounded by a fall off in the hitting department. On the other hand Dingley took full advantage of the mistakes and took full toll to finish up winning 15 to 5 in eight innings. On Sunday Dandenong hosted Mornington in the game that will finish this Saturday as from what I have heard the game was into the 13th or 14th innings with the score locked at 3 all. This is a testament to the two sides fighting abilities. I await with baited breathe as to the outcome of this game. In B Grade Pakenham got up over a gallant Upwey 7 to 6 while Frankston got off to flying start against Dandenong to finish the game 16 to 7 to move staright into the B Grade GF in a fortnight. Till later in the week.

Preliminary Final Weekend and what a cracker it was. First up we had the continuation of the 2nd semi between Dandenong and Mornington with Mornington getting up 6 to 3 in the end of the 14th innings. Now for the Prelims. Dandenong then went out and played Dingley on the Sunday and exacted revenge to book their return match with Mornington with an emphatic 12 to 3 win. In A Reserve Dandenong edged out Dingley 8 to 7. In B Grade Dandenong took on Pakenham and in an interesting game that had Pakenham I believe leading finished up losing on a pitch count technicality that is applied to a junior. Hence Dandenong head into the Granny to take on Frankston. In B Reserve Upwey were too good for Berwick to the tune of 15 to 0. In C1 Cheltenham edged out a gallant Chelsea 5 to 4 abd in C2 Mornington gave Bonbeach a fair old pantsing 18 to 8. In the Junior Grand Finals we had the following results. U/12 Bonbeach 9 def Mornington 3 U/14 Frankston 4 def Cheltenham 3 U/16 Mornington 6 def Frankston 2 U/18 Frankston 5 def Dandenong 3 Congratulations to all the winners and bring on the Senior Grand Finals.

Dandy broke the pitch count rule. They started a new hitter on 101 pitches after a miscommunication between the scorer and the manager. Harsh penalty but the rule is clear. Game was called after a interjection by the dba. Both teams were happy to play it out.

Shrugging off the loss of pitching ace Brad Egan and delivering a remarkable show of offensive power with a seven-spot in the second, Guild brought a shuddering end to Bellarine’s season with a thumping 10-5 win in the Geelong Baseball Association A Grade Preliminary Final. Guild will meet Newport Rams in the Grand Final at Geelong Baseball Centre next Saturday.www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

Grand Final weekend, what a time of the year. the culmination of a seasons work all down to the final day. Working backwards(no jokes please) we start with C2 with Mornington defeating Berwick. In C1 Cheltenham defeated Dingley. In B2 Upwey had a win over Pakenham. In B1 Pakenham took advantage of some very sloppy fielding from Frankston to run out winners 9 to 8. In A2 Dandenong ran out comfortable winners over Cheltenham and Finally to the A1 game between Mornington and Dandenong. Dandenong came out firing putting up three early runs to put pressure on the Pirates. Mornington came back with one then the flood gates opened for Dandenong as they poured five runs to break the game open. The Angels continued to score and pushed the score out to 12 to 1 when the Pirates mounted a spirited comeback to score three to make it 12 to 4. Matt Hardie come on to pitch for the Pirates and quelled the rampaging Angels as the Pirates really stepped up their comeback by getting the scores to 12 to 9 when Mark Surtees came on for Dandenong and put out the spot fires in the 9th to give Dandenong Back To Back Flags. Congratulations to all the Premiership Teams, well played to the Runners Up in each section. A special round of applause to the BonBeach Baseball Club for their efforts over the weekend getting the grounds up and for their organization in keeping the spectators and there was plenty well feed and lubricated. And most of all well done to the DBA for once again putting together another excellent season of baseball. P.S. The winners of the Womens Section was Essendon/Doncaster over Melb Uni as I found out last night on the Bill & Boz Show on Fox. Until Next season Boofa
