Newport forced a 17-2 mercy-rule result over Colac in GBA A Grade Round Six, while Guild pitching duo Brad Egan and Jarryd Wood conceded just two hits as their team blanked Saints 9-0. One big innings gave Lara a real shot against Deakin - but the Blues were able to ice the contest with five in the last for an 11-9 win - while Bellarine stormed away for a thumping 13-0 win over Mounties. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

The Penguins had a 13 to 1 win against Doncaster yesterday. Matty Wilson and Sam Gibbons were dominant on the mound. Mitch Ayres had 4 hits including 2 home runs. Ben Leslie hit a home run and finished with 3 hits. It was a great team performance for the 2nd week in a row.

Hello People, In DBA world this week we had what I would call a topsey turvey type weekend of results. First up we had Cheltenham hosting Frankston in a what developed into a pitchers duel between the two sides. Both sides where depleted of their regular players when Cheltenham finally cut a break and went on to win 6 to 2. Next up we had Dingley trekking it down to Boneo and not wanting to waste the trip banked the two points quite comfortably by defeating Boneo 10 to 5. Berwick trotted off to the Chelsea Pond and wanting to continue their climb up the ladder managed to get over Chelsea in a tightly fought game running out eventual winners 10 to 5. Finally in what may have been the match of the round Mornington took on Dandenong where Josh Mulherin from all reports threw a blinder to hold Dandenong to just two runs while his side Mornington racked up five of their own to run out winners. The top four at present looks like this after six rounds. Frankston 9 Dingley 8 Berwick 8 Boneo 8. Till later in the work Be safe

Gidday all you baseball loving folk. Round 7 in the DBA could tell us what and who is what in the hen house. First up we have Frankston trotting off to Berwick. Frankston will be looking for atonement for last week and still undermanned will put a strong effort against a confident Berwick who are doing everything right at the moment. In a tight one, maybe Berwick but it could be Frankston. Yes I am sitting on the fence getting splinters over this game. Boneo take the drive down to Cheltenham this week who would be bouyed by their confidence boosting win over Frankston. Boneo has come back to reality over the last couple of weeks and will get a further reality check running into a surging Cheltenham. Cheltenham to win. Dingley has kindly invited Bonbeach to the K H Wearne Ball Park and will definately do them no favours. Dingley are playing strong supportive baseball at present while the Bluejays are trying to find that consistency. The Dingley young guns for mine to take the points. Finally, we have Chelsea making the trip down the Nepean Highway to take on a very depleted Mornington. Kudos to the Pirates last week for their gutsy win over Dandenong, but rumour could be fact that there is more missing which will give Chelsea a chance to an upset. If Chelsea keep improving and learning, this week could be when the first of the upsets could happen. But, with that stated, Mornington to sneak home maybe. Have a good weekend of Baseball and be happy. Boofa.

The A grade Penguins had a 10 to 5 win at Research today. Home runs to Mitch Edwards, Chris Nicholas and Ben Leslie. We had good hitting throughout the whole lineup. Kane Davidson pitched the 1st 4 and 2/3rds. He did really well in his 1st A grade start on the hill. Matty Wilson pitched the final 2 and a 1/3 innings to seal the win.
The A res was won by the Penguins 23 to 10.

Making it five wins on the trot, Deakin downed Newport 7-1 in the GBA today (the Rams first loss of the season), while Bellarine pinched its game 4-3 over Guild and Ballarat-based Mounties belted an error-ridden Colac 21-12. Lara and Saints will complete Round Seven with a Sunday game at Lara.www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/round-seven-2018

Hello sports fans in Baseball world, Round 7 is now completed and all that has happened is that the ladder is still very much open with only a point separating fourth and fifth at this point. First up we had Dingley playing Bonbeach in what turned out to be an involving game as Dingley threw Shae Wilson and picked up the win with Dingley getting on top 8 to 2. Mornington continued their winning vein by showing no mercy to Chelsea who are now starting to find out that A Grade ball is a lot different from B Grade ball. The learning process continues for the Dolphins, but well done to the undermanned Pirates for the win. The final score was 11 to 1. In a nail biter down at Farm Rd Boneo trekked to play a confident Cheltenham and was was served up was a run feast with both sides at the end of the day tied at 11 apiece. Finally we have Frankston trotting of down to Berwick, both sides were missing key players, but with Mitch Bowen 6 innings and Jeff Guerrero 3 innings combine for a 11 to 0 shut out. Simon Ratcliffe lead the way with four hits. This leaves to the top four looking like this. Frankston 11 Dingley 10 Dandenong 9 Boneo 9. Till later this week. Enjoy

Here we go again, Round 8 of the Dandenong Baseball Association kicks off Saturday with what should be some ripping games that may sort out ladder positions. First up we have Cheltenham chugging down to Bonbeach looking for a consolidating win. One would expect Cheltenham to get up but Bonbeach might just suprise and catch Cheltenham on the hop. However, Cheltenham to sneak in. Next we have Frankston getting on the Peninsula Link and hot footing it down to Boneo for a 1st v 4th game. Frankston being back to full strength will be looking to consolidate their top of the ladder position. They will get stiff opposition from the Boneo tribe and in what will be an entertaining game Frankston with their all round ability on the mound and in the batting box should get away with lollies. In what I feel is the game of the round, Digley nick off up the Dandy bypass to Dandenong which will be a most enthralling game. Both sides offer good defense as a backbone of their respective teams, but this game will be won in the batting box and this is where Dandy might just get the edge. There will be nothing in it and on a toss of a coin, Dandy by a short half nose. Finally we get to Mornington hosting Berwick. Berwick will be looking for an improved effort after their lacklustre effort last week against the Tomatoes. Mornington even without a consistent team are starting to get that winning feeling happening again. I feel that the Pirates with their Buccaneering ways should be good enough to take the loot against a stagnating Berwick that is floating in the ocean like a Clipper without any wind. Pirates to steal the points in this game. Chelsea have the bye this round.
Good luck to all teams. Bring on the Queens Birthday Carnival. Boofa.

Heading to the Queen's Birthday break, the GBA could not have been at a more fascinating stage, with three clubs (Newport, Guild and Bellarine) at eight wins and two losses and fourth spot distinctly still up for grabs. Posting just its second win, Lara downed Newport 7-3, Guild overpowered Colac 11-1, Mounties edged home 5-4 over fourth-placed Deakin and Bellarine dispensed with Saints 9-1. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

With QBW around the corner we have a look at the results from Saturday. First up we had Cheltenham heading to Bonbeach and in a tough game where Bonbeach didn't capitalize on their chances went down to Cheltenham 5 to 3. In the next game Berwick drove to Mornington and in an improved performance dodged a bullet and sent the Pirates with their skull and bones packing with a close fought 4 to 2 victory. Next up we a what would be called the latter day rivalry between Dandenong and Dingley. Dandenong are starting to really hit their straps while this effort by the Dingley youngsters will be put down as learning curve. Final result was Dandenong with an Angelic 7 to the Dingley youngsters 0. Finally on a pleasant Saturday afternoon Frankston whizzed down the Pen Link to Boneo looking for a close contest and a chance to consilidate top spot. What was delivered for the spectators was a dominate pitching performance from Jeff Guerrero for 6 innings and Mitch Bowen 1 innings and some very consistent hitting from the Tomatoes line up to take the game 12 to 2. Chelsea had the bye.
Thus leaves the ladder like this at the break Frankston 13 Dandenong 11 Dingley 10 Cheltenham 10 Berwick 10 Boneo 9 Mornington 8 Chelsea 5 BonBeach 4
All enjoy your winter break this weekend and hope to catch up with a few of you in Geelong. Be safe

Hello Had a round robin here in the North East over the past weekend and this weeks sees the North Eastern men head to Geelong. Unfortunately I will not be making the trip. Something about wine to drink and many from down south heading up here to an empty lake. However my spies will be down in Geelong and good luck to all who are going. Hope you enjoy the read. talesoflinedrive.wordpress.com/2018/06/06/rounding-third-by-line-drive-june-6th-2018/

In the DBA land we resume with Round 9 with first up we have Boneo trekking the freeways to Berwick to resume combat. Usually this game gets washed out and with the weather shaping up a bit ordinary, the result could be the same. Besides that, if the good Berwick turns up they should beat Boneo. Boneo play solid ball, but Berwick has the bit of polish to get the result. Next up we have Dandenong popping down Cheltenham Rd to the Rustlerdome in what should be an intriguing game. Dandy have their mojo back while Chelt at times are looking for theirs on a consistent basis. Dandy for mine in what should be a tight tussle early with Dandy pulling away. Next up we have Chelsea shooting down Springvale Rd to accept the Dingley invitation for a game. Sadly, it will be all one way traffic for the Chelsea boys as they find themselves driving in the wrong way against the finely tuned Jack Larner lads who will revenge for the scoreless game they had prior to the break. Dingley in a canter. Finally Bonbeach chug-a-lug down the Frankston Freeway to Robinson reserve to take on the ladder leading Tomatoes. Frankston with a full squad to pick from should be to strong and powerful for an up and down Bluejays. Rug up and bring a brolly as Saturday isn't looking all that flash. Till then.

Standings-wise there was no change after Round Nine in A Grade of Geelong Baseball Association, where Newport was too strong for Mounties 11-3 and Guild enjoyed a comfortable 9-5 win over Deakin. Bellarine – sparked by a Brock Wells grand slam - turned on the offence in two blistering innings to crush Lara 16-6 and East Belmont Saints edged closer in fifth spot by downing Colac 11-3 in a clash shortened marginally by bad light. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/round-nine-2018

The A grade Penguins beat Greensborough 4 to 3. Godbold and Devine v Wilson and Davidson on the hill. All 4 guys pitched great. The best hitter for the day for Greensborough was Adrian Fittock with 3 hits including a 3 run jack. Our best hitter was Mitch Edwards with 2 hits including a bomb. The A Res was won by the Penguins 8 to 2.

I believe that would be eight home runs for Mitch Edwards in his past ten club games in Vic and ACT - 6 of those from 9 outings with the Penguins. One every 4/5 trips.
Amazing streak. No wonder Howie was enthused.

Well the results are in from a wintery Saturday afternoon with only the one suprise for the round. First up we had Bonbeach being hosted by Frankston and the Tomatoes dined on Bluejay with 9 runs in the first and ran out comfortable winners 15 to 5 in seven. Dandenong continued their winning ways by taking care of Cheltenham 9 to 3. Dingley didn't let up on Chelsea to record a 14 to 2 victory and finally Boneo caused the upset of the round with a stirring 7 to 1 victory over a disappointing Berwick. The four still doesn't have any real definition except for a lot of unanswered questions. Frankston 15 Dandenong 13 Dingley 12 Boneo 11 Followed by Mornington. Cheltenham and Berwick all on 10 With Chelsea 5 Bonbeach 4 Talk to you all later in the week. Boofa

The start of the second half of the season gets under away this Saturday with what could be the defining round of the season. In A Grade we have first up Bonbeach trekking down the Peninsula Freeway to Boneo looking to put in an improved performance after last weeks lost to Frankston. Boneo on the other hand will be looking to establish their bonefides and keep that winning feeling happening. In what could be a danger game for Boneo, they should get the points. Chelsea nip down to Cheltenham for what is also a danger game for the Rustlers, drop this one and the four starts to drift away. With that thought in mind, Cheltenham should to strong for the Gallant Dolphins who are finding out what A Grade baseball is all about. In what really stands out as the four point game we have Mornington trotting off down to Dingley. The Dingley young guns under the Guru Jack Larner are travelling very nicely if you don't mind, where as Mornington are still being a bit up and down. The Pirates need to be fully switched on or suffer the consequences of drifting further from the four. Dingley at home will be tough and with a toss of the coin I will go with Dingley, but not with a lot of confidence. Finally in A Grade we have the battle of the top two Dandenong(2nd) hosting Frankston(1st) in what should be a blockbuster. After a first round washout these two teams have gather momentum all season and derserve their top two billing. With not a lot between these two sides, the spectators should be enthralled with what should be close contest. Being the person that I am, I am going to tip baseball the winner. In B Grade we have Dandenong playing Pakenham for the battle of second and third. Dandy being the home side should sneak in. Frankston trot off down to Dingley with first playing last and the result should follow suit. Franksto to win comfortably. Finally UFG host the Berwick Emeralds which shape as an important game for both sides. An Upwey win bring them to within one game of the four and a loss will leave them languishing three games out. I think I will tip Upwey to win to keep their finals hopes alive. Have a good weekend of Baseball Till next week Boofa.

Contained early, Newport skipped away mid-game and posted a comfortable 12-2 win over Colac Braves in Geelong Baseball Association A Grade Round Ten, which saw Bellarine overpower Mounties YC 12-1. Matching the Rams and Bears at the top of the table, Guild blitzed Saints 8-0 with a late flurry, enabling Deakin to strengthen its hold on fourth with a clear cut 7-3 win over Lara. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

The wrap up of Round 10 is a bit like the weather, fully congested and possibly more congestion to come. For starters Cheltenham took on Chelsea who were looking for continual improvemnet went down miserably to Cheltenham 9 to 1. In the next game Boneo looking to consolidate their position in the four played Bonbeach who are looking for improvement played out a 4 all draw that was called because of light. Next up we had Mornington and Dingley playing with Mornington needing the win to stay in touch. Stay in touch they did by beating a disappointing Dingley 9 to 2. And finally in a game that was played in constant rain Dandenong hosted Frankston in the game of the top of the ladder. Starting in light rain Dandenong lost their pitcher Big Chico during the third batter when he slipped on the mound and popped a groin muscle that may sideline him for a few weeks. In a nip and tuck game the score was Dandy 4 to dandenong 3. frankston failing to capitalise with the bat in the 7th the comitted a couple of crucial errors to allow Dandenong to score three runs and finish the game 7 to 3 when the umpires decided that everybody was soaked enough. This leaves the ladder as such Dandenong 15 Frankston 15 Mornington 12 Dingley 12 Cheltenham 12 Boneo 12 Berwick 12 BonBeach 5 Chelsea 5 In B Grade Pakenham defeated Dandenong in a rain shortened game 9 to 3 Frankston drew with an upbeat Dingley 7 all And Berwick Emeralds 1 drew with UFG 1 The ladder being Frankston 19 Dandenong 12 Pakenham 12 Berwick 9 UFG 5 Dingley 3
Till later in the week Boofa

Bellarine again delivered the quality offence in its clear-cut 8-2 Round Eleven Geelong Baseball Association result over Deakin – which retains its break in fourth placing, compliments of an 11-0 Newport whitewash over a heavily depleted and seriously outgunned East Belmont Saints. Sharing beastly league leadership with the Bears and the Rams, Guild Lions cruised home 14-6 over a Mounties outfit that rallied with a late offensive – as did Lara, who were well-held by Colac until the Wildcats engineered an offensive assault for an 11-1 win that was not indicative of a mostly tight contest. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/round-eleven-2018

Waverley beat my Penguins 12 to 11 yesterday. Down 6 to 0, we were able to level the score after a Hayden Dingle home run. Waverley responded with 6 runs in the top of the last. We were able to score 5 on the back of a Daniel Mack 3 run home run and a Mitch Ayres 2 run home run. Staci Rogers was the standout of the game with 3 hits (2 home runs) and 7 RBI’s. The Penguins won the A Res.

Hello Sports Fans and welcome to another edition of the DBA Ramblings. We just have the A Grade today and the B Grade will follow shortly. First up we have the major upset of the round with Berwick not taking their chances to consolidate their finals chances by going down to a very tenacious and plucky Bonbeach 6 to 5. Well done to the Jays. Next up Dandenong made sure that Boneo was not going to enjoy the drive down the freeway by touching up the Braves to the tune of 12 to 1. In what was potentially going to be the match of the round Mornington taking on Cheltenham usually results in a close game, however not this time, Mornington flexed it's batting muscle and powered away from a faltering Cheltenham to record a strong 11 to 5 to put seperation between themselves and the disappointing Berwick and Cheltenham. Finally Frankston nicked off down to Chelsea for a 2nd v 9th game that resulted in where the two sides sit with Frankston recording a strong 15 to nil win. Dingley had the bye this week. This leaves the final four as such Dandenong 17 Frankston 17 Mornington 14 Dingley 14 Cheltenham 12 Berwick 12 Boneo 12 Bonbeach 7 Chelsea 5 B Grade results to come soon. Till then enjoy.

Round 12 starts this weekend with some interesting games that will define the four. First up in A Grade we have Berwick hosting Dingley in which should be a good tussle, Dingley wanting to stay in the four and Berwick wanting to stay in touch. Dingley is my pick as they are playing the more consistent ball at the present, but it could go either way. Next Bonbeach host Dandenong. This will be a good contest for the first four or five innings before Dandenong pull away. Bonbeach have been playing well of late and will push the Angels all the way. Boneo sent the invitation to Chelsea and Chelsea obliged and that is where the friendliness finishes. Boneo has a must win game if they to are to stay in touch with the four. Chelsea will be looking for an improved performance, but Boneo with desperation will get over the line. In the last A grade game, we have Frankston hosting Mornington. Frankston will have to be very good on their own Patch as Mornington have awoken the bats in a loud way and will test Frankston. Tradionally these games have been close, but this time around I will tip Mornington in a tight one. In B Grade we have Upwey fighting for a spot closer to the four taking on Dandenong who are sitting third, with desperation I will tip Upwey. Next up we have Dingley play the Berwick Emeralds. This is my upset for the round and will tip Dingley to win. And finally in the battle for supremacy we have Frankston tackling Pakenham in what should be a great game. For me Frankston to win. Have a good weekend. Till next week. Boofa

Saints celebrated Geelong Baseball Association A Grade game number 500 by club stalwart Chris Rickard with a thumping 20-1 win over Mounties, while flag contenders Bellarine and Newport fought out a 3-3 draw in a quality contest at Wallington. By virtue of the split result and its hard-fought 7-4 win over Lara Wildcats, Guild has taken a narrow lead at the top of the table after another round played in wild weather conditions across the league. Recovering from a deficit after the home side had made the running, Deakin edged away 10-6 over Colac Braves to stay clear in fourth. www.geelongbaseballassociation.com.au/

The wrap up for the DBA this week will be brief. Only the one game started in the A Grade with Bonbeach hosting Dandenong. In an intriguing game, Bonbeach made the earlt play by leading 3 to 1 until Dandenong put the foot down and finished up winning 7 to 3. All the other games were washed out. In B Grade Dandenong bested Upwey and Dingley upset Berwick as the only games to get started. Till next week. Stay dry.
