Well done to Matty and his team, taking out the MWBL A Grade GF. Noticed something out of the norm during NB infield/outfield routine, the Heathmont pitcher warming up between the 2nd baseman and right fielder. I know what I would be doing if I was the opposing coach hitting pre game routine. Did anyone ask him politely to move?

Its very common for players from one team to still be throwing while the other does infield outfield. The throwers stay out the way and the fielders do their thing. To imply you would hit the ball at him is stupid, its lucky for you that you werent the opposing coach hitting infield outfielder because I know what about 20 heathmont players would be doing.

farnt, not sure if we will get an import or not next season. What we will do though is put together a team to give us a chance to win again. The 2 import pitchers we have had in my time at Heathmont have been outstanding on and off the field. Some people see winter as a relaxed competition but I have always treated it like any on their game of baseball. I want to win. As for our pitcher throwing in the outfield during Nth Balwyns infield/outfield. No one asked him to move. I thought that they worried too much about what we were doing pre and during the game rather than their own game. That is how I saw it. But I could be wrong.

Well done again MattyG. The import argument is interesting. Nate is a young guy looking who was referred to HBC. He is a quality young man and a positive influence around the club, helping out juniors and our tee-ballers. We were lucky to have him for 2016, and we are now looking for a young, middle-aged or older lady whose dream is to get married and settle down in the leafy Eastern suburbs of Melb....kidding, only kidding...

A question or a discussion doesn't mean an argument ;-) I don't know Nate but glad he was of value to the club - same with Evan at GMBC who is a great bloke and loves Melbourne and wanted a club for winter. No different to 'importing' someone from another club, state or whatever - supply and demand.

Typical comments coming from you Johne - Well, you've never been a very good strategist, nor would you understand the situation in such an important game. It was quite clear the Heathmont pitcher had "won" the pre game psychological contest, which was evident throughout the entire game. And if I was still coaching I would have asked him (or Matty to move him) to move either behind the outfielders or down the line, where there is more than enough room for him to warm up. It is also disrespectful to the opposing team.

Unfortunately they didn’t teach strategy out in the western suburbs, just that you should take account for what you do or say and not hide. In other news baseball jobs overseas run a good story on the final. www.baseballjobsoverseas.com/2016/09/13/ibc-member-nate-harris-leads-heathmont-to-4th-melbourne-winter-league-championship-in-5-years/

Johne, this discussion is not about you in a playing capacity, or your playing achievements and good on you for reaching the levels you did. The discussion is about coaching and game etiquette. And yes, I was involved with clubs in the Western district many years ago and was fortunate enough to be taught the finer points and behaviours of coaching by Ernie Bolton.

I know what I would be doing if I was the opposing coach hitting pre game routine. Did anyone ask him politely to move? I will take that as a no. If there was a concern BTD someone at Nbbc would have asked him to move - there are a lot of experienced coaches even minus Dale. If there was a hint of mind games then someone at Nbbc would have asked him to move. Don't get me wrong I would have thought it unusual if I was there but if concerned re my pre game routine, I would have asked him to move. If 'psych' the intent same. BTD you are a scholar or the game and traditional - personally I love your work but you and all of us are not too old to learn. My money on NB next couple of years so stay tuned on your game and all will be ok. Get back on the diamond soon BTD!
