Would love for an insight into why DV and Ringwood were unable to get a team up and running

You are not the only one wondering that. Lack of effort from both leagues to get their S&%t together seems to be the consensus. We might try and get to the bottom of it for next weeks show.

I'm hardly ever able to catch the show when it's live but I listen to every episode whether it's a week later or even 3 weeks later. I'm going to be overseas for 12 months and look forward to this vital link for my fix of Vic baseball. Hopefully it will progress to a summer league radio show.

This week on the Ball Game we have Neale Price of BV in the studio to clear up the funding situation and explain about the charter being introduced for the season coming. Also we will have the MLB wrap with Willo and a round up of the DBA games. The MWBL and GBA report will be held over for this special event. If you want any questions asked just message me through the forum.

Neale was reserved and played his cards close to his chest. Did let out that John Deeble is the new Aces Manager. Seemed to think that funding will be generated from other avenues. The ABF wants to cover the shortfall in funding by hiking the fees again. Be prepared for a little rise in fees. It is not important to win State titles but it is all about getting the kids signed. Winning does come second. The Charter may be successful but it will take a lot of correct and proper organization. ABF is accepting that we as a Baseball Nation will be lucky to crack the top twelve in the IBAF rankings due to lack of senior games being played.

Senior fees have been upped by BV to $117 or $118.00 for the season. An increase of I think of about $15.00 up from last season. I think ABF/BV have just found the funding for the cut funding from the ASC. Ridiculous, Cricket true cost without added cost is still under the ton. Amazing, an elite sport cheaper than a non elite sport. Go figure.

Doubleplay, Do you have a breakdown of where that money goes? I assume only ABF rego (to run their programs), insurance and the remainder to BV to run the winter leagues. As they don't actually run the winter competitions and don't enter Provincial teams into any championships BV shouldn't need a lot of money to cover this.

Goblin, Whats the BA Cap fee? How much of this goes to the ABF? Do you have the winter BV charges? Cheers BA Cap = Baseball Australia rego fee's You will note that the insurance fee is only $7.85 per head. The current Winter Diamond Valley fee's were : (which will go up further next Winter) If also registered in Summer Seniors : BV Fee $26.10 If play only Senior Winter: ABF Fee $42.55 + BV Fee $31.30 = $73.75 If Junior also registered in Summer : BV Fee $26.10 If play Winter Juniors Only : ABF Fee $22.35 + BV Fee $26.10 = $48.45 (Plus $5 Junior Development fee per player) $420 per Senior Team Entry $310 per Junior Team Entry

From the latest BV annual report I get about 4500 players in winter baseball. If a third are winter only BV are picking up just over $125 grand in registration fees. Id love to hear the justification for how this is spent. And tell me again Wyatt, exactly how is summer subsidising winter??

Well gj, it is obvious that $125K is to pay for the winter holidays and the ability to hold Winter Championships at the cost of the Clubs holding it. Also, it would be a shame if some of that money was actually spent on developing a regional area in the south to match the regional grounds in Mildura, Bendigo, Latrobe and Altona and Geelong. I may have missed a regional area that has copped some funding. But don't forget, we have had the ASC cuts to funding, so we can't be to condescending about what Winter pays for.

Id almost forgotten that BV have learnt something else from the ABF - like offering the championships to whatever local council will stump up the asking price for a bit of sporting tourism. Then , once the council has agreed tell the local association they have to host. And if you can get a % of the canteen even better. ABF have this down pat, BV are getting the hang.

Gj you know i'm all for the bashing (while i still can before i sign a social media policy), but where did you get $125k?
1500 @ $26 for the BV fee is only $39k. But dont forget that BV staff (regardless of what the percieved value is) is for both summer and winter and need to be paid for from both funds...

From the BV annual report (and assuming some numbers from those not listed) there are about 4500 winter players. If you assume 2/3 of these play summer they pay $26.10 The remaining winter only players pay $31.30 - and this is rego only to BV. Apart from Ashley Blair, what BV staff do anything for winter baseball and this is only running the winter champs. A lot of money for FA The VPBL charged less and subsidised its rep teams to keep those costs down as well.

It has always amazed me that if one insurance covers you for 12 months, why doesn't one registration cover you for 12 months. All players are issued with a membership number. Or is this to hard to manage for the Summer and Winter. It is done now if your a Summer/Winter player, isn't this a case of double dipping for the same rego.

SSS, Something else a bit closer to home for you, MWBL have 2040 registered players. This generates over $50k in rego fees for BV. What do you get for it?

Players only pay the ABF fee once, but the BV fee for both seasons.

Can anybody explain why BV is double dipping on the rego fee?I don't see BV helping out the DBA or the GBA or for that matter any League unless we are being charged inadvertly for the Winter Championships which used to be run by the old VPBL for next to nix.

May I suggest that you should get someone from BV onto your radio program and ask them that question?

From what I hear of Neil Price's answers last week I wouldn't expect a positive response.
