The occurrence of incompentence from the umpire calling the game early, to the written protest not being signed by both Managers with the time of protest noted, to the complete incompentence shown by the CA in getting the ball rolling early and having the matter settled by at the latest, Wednesday should result in severe reprimands for both the Umpire/s and CA for their lack of rules and propriety. In some workplaces, this kind of disregard for the working rules would result in instant dismaissal. Shame, Shame. Shame

houghy49, Mr. Capel I agree with you both on the issue of communication from BV... In an earlier post I noted that if Springvale wasn't aware there was a potential issue until Friday afternoon, that would be unacceptable.
houghy49, in regard to the protest, at worst, incorrect procedure was followed... this is totally different to cheating... and regardless, the same outcome would have been reached because the game was not completed as per the playing conditions.
Mr. Capel, I agree with your comments about tightening procedures around protests, not just in playoffs, but in all instances... prompt and detailed responses should be expected in all instances where there is uncertainty surrounding a result. I will raise this with the SLC as something we must try to improve, along with the general communication of issues to club.
PS, not sure why the formalities, but its a nice break from what I'm normally called.

You'll hopefully have noted that in other threads I have referred to Coach Dale and Coach Deeble at times. Whether people agree with things or not, respect to some positions is merited. It certainly isn't something I use(d) as a derogatory term.
Saturday morning was a pretty emotional time, given the game circumstances, with Footscray scoring five and then Springvale scoring three, before a hit with two-out to center left brought home two runners to win them the game, There were a few tears and much relief in the dugout, but they had to forget all that and play a Grand Final against a rested opponent half an hour later. The Div 3 GF, despite being marred by a rain delay was an excellent game and credit to both sides and congratulations to Waverley on their back-to-back Premierships.
Just to raise an question, if a run of the mill Saturday/Sunday/Monday night game is ended 10 minutes early and noted on the match card and picked up by the CA, is it expected by the SLA that it will be resumed at a later time, or does a team HAVE to protest?

Yes, if information on the match card shows a breach of the playing conditions, the Competition's Administrator is obliged to act, regardless of a protest.
For example, if it's noted by the CA that an illegal player was used or a junior pitcher has breached a pitch count restriction, but not noted by either team, the CA is obliged to act on the breach.
In the situation of the run-of-the-mill game, there's the luxury of making up the time at a later date to ensure an appropriate result. In the context of playoffs, this luxury is not afforded, meaning its even more important for a prompt resolution.
