DBA Monday's Wrap A Grade Bonbeach def Dandenong 13 - 11 In what would be the upset of the round, the Bluejays finally salutes for an onfield win. Well done to Rhicho and the boys. Dandy will regroup and should come out firing next week against the Tomatoes. Cheltenham V Dingley 7 to 5 The match of the round proved to be as the two top teams played for bragging rights before they meet again next week in the 2nd Semi. The Rustlers held on to a two run win. This win should hold Cheltenham in good stead for next week while the Dingoes will need to regroup. Frankston v Mornington. 5 to 6 In a tight fought game and Brendan Wilson starting again for the Pirates proved to good for Frankston on the day. Not exactly the ideal way for the Tomatoes to enter the finals next week. Well done to the Pirates who IMO is the big improvers in A Grade this season. B Grade Boneo v Chelsea 12 to 1 Boneo once again flex their muscles and cruised to a comfortable vctory. Their form over the last few weeks should test Pakky next week in what should be the battle of the big bats. Chelsea on the other hand would be happy this nightmare season is over. Dandenong v Dingley 7 to 4 The wise heads from the Angels did enough to get pass the Young Guns from Dingley. The YG's should be more than happy with they have achieved this season which puts Dingley in a strong position for years to come. The Angels, for mine could be a major player in this years finals. Moorabbin v Oakleigh Forfiet What can be said, has probably already been said in spades over the weekend. Word has it that the Panther boys weren't happy with the late notice. This leaves the Moorabbin boys short of gallop prior to next weeks finals. Pakenham v OGH 19 to 1 The Pumas continued their impressive run production over the last few weeks and pulverised the Travelling Wilburies who completed their journey throughout the year at Pakkyland. The Pumas seem to be running into form very nicely with the 2nd Semi against Boneo.
Well done to the teams that made next week finals. Catch you all later in the week. Congratulation to Melbourne Uni who won the Womens finals against Berwick yesterday at Dandenong.

Ah24 .....I think you have very little understanding of what has been said by people outside of the baseball club, having just made that statement. You have clubs working hard busting their backsides trying to earn their way into A grade and you because your club has arranged to have a A and a B grade club you have miss used the rule IMO to just push a club out of finals appearances as if they happen every year. To miss a 2nds final berth can't be compared with a club trying to gain a promotion into a higher grade. Any way you want to turn it around, it's still dodgie IMO. So tell me what happened to your pitchers from your regular B 1side did they pitch in the 2nds and help to push someone else out of finals as well. Would it not be more rewarding making it through on you own merritts with the team that got you into that position. League needs to re look at the rule. Hi Pirates, If people are saying certain things outside of our club, then maybe they should actually say what they think when speaking directly to people within our club. In all conversations I have with people about us having an A & B Grade teams the feedback has been positive. It now seems that there is no problem with us having the team there as long as we don't make finals and get in anyone else's way. You are entitled to your opinion and on this one it looks like we should agree to disagree and move on. BTW I have never questioned any other clubs work ethic.

Thanks for the write ups OMR.
A lot has been said about our B1's and how well the kids have gone this year and such, but what I want to mention is the opposition sides we faced during the year. A big thank you to all the guys we played against.
This was my first year of coaching at any level (except for 1 inning a few years ago in the firsts, thanks Wenks) and for those that know me, I don't say too much. It was nice to get feed back from the opposing sides and umpires on where we were at, where we could improve and, basically, how to play the game. I know that a lot of you guys have been around for a while and it's not easy to play against a bunch of snot-nosed kids who think they are better than every one out there (and we've all been at this point along the journey also), so it was good to see you guys not take it easy on us, play hard to win, but also play fair and give out pointers as we went. There is a lot of experience in that league and it was pleasing that some was passed on.
A big tick to the DBA B1 teams this year and I wish you all the best in the coming finals.

Game 1 of the Bendigo baseball grand finals was played yesterday.
In a great game of baseball it was the Dodgers who came out 7-6 victors over Falcons. Scores were tight all day, with Dodgers having a early 3-1 lead, until Falcons came back to lead 6-4 before the Dodgers were able to plate 3 more. Geoff Holland for the Dodgers pitched a scoreless dig in the bottom of the 7th to close the game out.
Alot of support was great to see, with a game more than worthy of a grand final played. Dodgers now looking to win next week to take the flag (and break Falcons 12 A-grade premiership streak), with Falcons looking to come back and tie the series to force a game 3. If game 2 is anything like game 1 it will be a cracker!!!
In the B grade it was again a high quality game 1, with Falcons able to overcome an early deficit to win 11-6 over the Dodgers. Dodgers were very inventive with their pitching to stall Falcons hitters and if not for a couple of good plays by the Falcons late in the game the Dodgers would have had opportunities to take the match. Again a cracking game 2 coming up!!
In the C grade preliminary final it was Falcons winning over Bendigo East (unsure of scores). Falcons have not booked their place against Dodgers in next week's grand final. It was tight all day with some deft moves made by both teams so I'm told (even the hidden ball trick was attempted).

So its OK for Oakleigh to play the B2 because they are the in the 4 and once the game has started, tell the opposing club that they don't have enough for B1. They did exactly the same thing at Boneo as well.

I would say no, it isn't right and sure as h#ll not ethical and possibly well planned. Surely they would have known long before 1.00pm. Especially as half the team work for the one bloke who plays in the B1 team.

Oldmanriver, Oakleigh have become a bloody disgrace this year. Their ground is a bog and their B1 players have missed out on at least 4 -5 games that I know of. I know of another Club that offered their vacant ground a week before thye were to play them at Oakleigh and when that Club rocked up to Oakleigh they were told by some knucklehead that "they didn't have to take up their offer of another ground" and shortly thereafter the Official Umpire declared the game at the Oakleigh ground a washout. At the last minute the Official Umpire said that the game could be switched to the offered field but it was all too hard for the Oakligh guys. What a bunch of rabble they have become. Bill Blanden would be devastated with recent goings on. Considering they were a very strong club in BV going back 40 years they have reached absolute rock bottom now. My last point is that 2 of the DBA's Vice Presidents are running the Oakleigh Club and for a DBA Vice President to be involved with the knocking back of another ground for use so everyone can have their game of baseball is tantamount to bloodymindedness. Obviously trying to sell a few more hotdogs at your boggy home ground is more important than everyone playing baseball (which is what we are all here for).

On another somber note, Smyles went down in the A1 Mornington v Frankston Game, dislocating his right shoulder and breaking his collarbone. Wishing him the best for a speedy recovery.

Well with the wettest home and away season i can remember over I am chomping at the bit for the DBA finals to get under way.
The A1 and B1 comps are wide open so should be a good series.
I am personally looking forward to hosting the Tomatoes!

Smyles? Alan Seiler Smyles or another one...either way, no good. On another somber note, Smyles went down in the A1 Mornington v Frankston Game, dislocating his right shoulder and breaking his collarbone. Wishing him the best for a speedy recovery.

On a less sombre note, congratulations to Chelt' Rustlers for gaining a finals appearance in A1, 2, 3 and 4's.

BigPlums, it is a shame what is happening at Oakleigh, having been associated with Bill Blanden from the time I was 8 and playing with Sth Melb before their demise and finishing up at Oakleigh for a couple years it does break my heart a bit. But I do sympathise about their ground situation as my Club also suffers from council ignorance, but we have managed to muddle on only having the one game washed out this season. It does make it hard for Oakleigh that are running two clubs basically under the one banner and where one side aren't willing to help the other out. That is a problem for the DBA to sort out. The people I do feel sorry for are the families of the Late Bill Blanden and the Late Jim Slattery whom put in many hours of their lives to make Oakleigh at one point a successful Club and a proud Club.

Here, Here Old Man River. I had anenormous amount of respect for Billy Blanden, not as much for Jim Slattery though. They both worked tirelessly for their club but I think things started to slide well before their time. It looks like they are down and almost out. The only way back is to get the Juniors started and have a 5 year plan to bring them through. It will only work if they can find decent junior coaches though. Good Luck. Baseball can ill afford to lose any more clubs so we need to lend a hand to those clubs down on their knees.
