While I don't doubt the strength of the evidence of Jarrett's apparent involvement in at least the Facebook group, it should be recognised that Facebook will, on occasion, shut down groups and/or pages rather capriciously when there is any hint of accusation relating to what Jarrett was convicted of. They may not necessarily have conducted any kind of investigation into the matter - which is their right, as it's their site.
Don't be surprised if the police investigation doesn't bear fruit for a long while yet. Anything crossing borders and involving ISPs will involve a mountain of paper and bovine digestive product the size of which would make a Sherpa blush.

Quite right, wako. Thank you.
It is very important that people do not see the suspension of the ABD Facebook site as a fait accompli. Nothing has been categorically proven of any wrongdoing.
Hence my appeal to anyone who knows anything further, of substance, to contact Crime Stoppers ASAP.
Whether or not the ABF or state authorities support us, this Forum will continue to advocate for what decent baseball people believe is right - and wrong.
And there seems to be plenty that is wrong in this case.

Surely the ABF and the relevant State entities would be communicating over this issue and ensuring that this matter is dealt with expediently (he says optimistically).
Im not sure if they each have a 'duty of care' to young baseballers out there across the Nation from a legal standpoint, but there can be no doubt that they have a moral and ethical 'duty' in this matter given the degree of potential seriuousness and potential harm for all concerned.
However the silence (at least herein) is deafening thus far though unless they are right on to this in other circles, and if so let us know so we can rest assured our game is in good hands at the highest level.

Now that the Australian Baseball Digest facebook page has been removed the editor has taken to emailing postings from his site to selected recipients. As a scout who had dealings with Jarrett in the past he had my email address along with most of the other Australian scouts. This morning I received a post to my email address from the Australian Baseball Digest. Bear in mind that I have never corresponded with or supplied my email address to that site. When I inquired via email as to how they had my email address I received the reply I have copied here below.
"Hmm Not really sure. Would you like us to remove you from our mail out list? We only use it send the occasional post notification".
Editor
I have responded to this email by ignoring his impolite response, I have unsubscribed to the Baseball Digest, not that I was knowingly subscribed to it in the 1st place?! Jarrett is a person that I have total disrespect for and I'm saddened by his apparent attempt to re infiltrate baseball circles in this most confusing manner. I've heard a tale attributed to Allan Jeans, former AFL coaching legend. It relates to the humble sausage whereby one can boil a sausage, BBQ it, braise it, fry it or prepare it in any manner of ways....at the end of the day it still remains a sausage. I suspect the same can be said for a pedophile.

heartbeat, your concern is justifiable, although the Twitter link has been on the ABD Facebook site for some time now. It doesn’t yet appear to have attracted online comment or discussion, but that could change. This Forum (like its forerunner in Baseball Radio) was designed to disseminate baseball news, to promote the game, to give a voice to Australian grassroots baseball people and to provide them with a vehicle to express themselves on any issues of concern or interest. There was never any intent to pursue any particular cause. However, from time to time an issue arises that gets our attention and commands that baseball people – and decent human beings – ask serious questions. Such has been the case with the controversy surrounding Australian Baseball Digest, an issue that has the potential to be explosive for the sport and its Australian governing bodies. Given the detailed body of information presented in Forum discussions, there seems little doubt that convicted paedophile Trevor Jarrett is involved with ABD and its associated online activities. As if we were not already mystified at the lack of any response from the ABF and the state governing bodies, we now learn that the ABD Editor has private email addresses and has been sending unsolicited messages to Australian-based MLB scouts. The Editor somehow has scouts’ email contacts (and Christ knows what other details), yet chooses to remain anonymous? Insists on remaining anonymous, while treating a scout’s concerns with abject disdain, as in this case? That is simply outrageous.I have known Phil Allen for a long time. He is a terrific baseball person and a wonderful human being of uncompromising principles. For Phil to feel obliged to make public comment tells me that there are very serious matters here that need to be addressed. Yes, there are police investigations taking place. And yes, ABD Facebook has been taken down for the time being at least (hopefully permanently). But what else is going on? Who else has the ABD Editor contacted, and for what reason? Let’s be realistic, if he has the hide to send unsolicited, anonymous emails to a professional scout of enormous baseball experience and standing, who else is he contacting by telephone, email or some other means? And why? People could have been excused for treading lightly about this issue perhaps two or three weeks ago. But now? Come on, let’s start looking out for each other and for the people who matter the most and are the most vulnerable. Our young people. Finally. If any Forum members are unaware of the extent of child sex offences in this country, and how they might impact upon your own neighbourhood, or your own town, you might like to follow the links on the following MAKO website. A site that may well be frowned upon by government and other authorities somehow more concerned with protecting perpetrators than victims or potential victims. Whether you like Derryn Hinch or not, reflect for a moment that he is incarcerated in home detention while the likes of Jarrett and his mates are taunting the baseball community and pursuing their own warped agenda with impunity. www.mako.org.au

Whether you like Derryn Hinch or not, reflect for a moment that he is incarcerated in home detention while the likes of Jarrett and his mates are taunting the baseball community and pursuing their own warped agenda with impunity. www.mako.org.auI would suggest that given the amateurish spam I have received from bat merchants (and general knowledge on the topic), it does not take an Internet Sherlock Holmes to find contact details for prominent baseball people. If anyone is concerned about this (as well they have a right to be), then they need to take more care in disclosing those contact details. If you pass your email address to an unscrupulous person who "just wants to give my brother in law's gym a kickstart in the marketing department so I gave him my whole contact list, hope you don't mind mate", use it to register an account on a forum that has marketers as "partners" or has poor security and gets hacked, expose it to solicit contact on websites etc etc then people you didn't intend to have that address will have it. Ironically, one can protect one's self against such irritants and miscreants by pursuing the sort of anonymity that we now consider suspicious behaviour in the case of the ABD editor. One thing that greatly annoys me about the new wave of social networking is the establishment of disclosing real names and real personal details as the new norm. Ten years ago it was far less common to disclose these things on the Internet to people undeserving of trust, and that was for good reason. Parents would not permit their children to walk around a public park wearing a nametag with personal details on it and hop into a windowless van on the promise of lollies, and the same goes for the Internet. It's all very well to squash a roach like Jarrett now, but what about the next one? As long as organised baseball exists, we will occasionally have paedophiles in our midst, and this should be kept in mind whenever making contact and whenever encountering situations requiring a degree of trust. Kids, don't talk to strangers. Derryn Hinch is under home detention because he is a recidivist and should consider himself lucky that he is not in prison. While I appreciate the likely motivation behind MAKO is righteous, I would take anything posted there with a grain or two of salt, as anyone should when reading any news source. Whether or not there are spiders lurking on every rock being released after a quick refresher in a luxury prison hotel, the maxim of being careful of who you (your kids, spouse, neighbours, teammates, clubmates, others in the baseball community, etc) trust applies just the same.

Your concerns over privacy and internet security are well-founded, wako.
In certain circumstances a person or an organisation might seek anonymity for perfectly legitimate reasons. However, for ABD to put itself out there as a friend and a servant of Australian baseball carries certain responsibilities and a certain accountability.
The ABD Editor refuses steadfastly to divulge his identity to anyone, yet he reserves the right to selectively contact members of the baseball community. There are people who find that objectionable, even more so than your everyday internet spammer who is trying to flog a product or service.
It is certainly suspicious and troubling given the circumstances and details mentioned in this thread.
While the MAKO website might be amateurish and maintained by community volunteers, I included the link simply to illustrate (via the alphabet listings) the extent of known child sex offences across the country.
Jarrett is of course included in the listing because he is on the NSW Child Sex Offenders Register. He, too, has been a recidivist – one who again seems to be up to no good.
I don’t believe that Hinch would quibble about the penalty handed down to him as a repeat offender. He would likely argue that on rare occasions a bad law has to be challenged for justice to ultimately prevail.

He would likely argue that on rare occasions a bad law has to be challenged for justice to ultimately prevail. Certainly, the MAKO lists are useful in getting an idea of prevalence. My concerns have less to do with the standard of web design (I'm not terribly good with aesthetics, myself) and more to do with the standard of journalism. They reproduce tabloid articles verbatim with no critical analysis (many of them from the Herald Sun, a newspaper not fit to absorb animal excreta), list "facts" for which they cite sources not readily available, when readily available supporting sources should exist, such as that "1/4 girls and 1/7 boys will be abused this year", make assertions about recidivism rates that seem to be more in line with community sentiment than actual academic writings and encourage vigilante behaviour (which they deny, but this is highly disingenuous - they are fully aware of the sentiments of the communities in which they provide notifications. What happens when they get it wrong and your mate's house gets burned down because MAKO thought a paedophile lived there?). That's why I would take what's written there with a grain of salt. It's no good saying "oh, we're just amateur community volunteers", people have to write responsibly in public.

You have made your point, wako.
A valid one it is, though not directly relevant to the pressing issue of what convicted felon Jarrett may be up to at this point in time.

For a long time I've had strong suspicions that Trevor Jarrett is involved in some way with the ABD. I wrote to the Editor of the ABD asking that person to identify himself / herself (although it is almost definitely a 'he'). All I got was a generic reply along the lines of 'WE are fanatical supporters of baseball, etc, etc, and WE parents of players and WE wish to remain anonymous but you probably already know us." blah blah blah. 'WE' was used at least a dozen times.
That simply isn't good enough. I wrote back and asked a direct question: "Is Trevor Jarrett in any way connected with the ABD?" Surprise, surprise..there was no reply.
I'm sure that the "Editor" is fully aware of the somewhat intense interest in the ABD in regards to suspicions that Jarrett is involved in some way. IF Jarrett is NOT involved, then why doesn't the ABD simply make an announcement to that effect on its site?? They just won't do it, and that simply adds fuel to the fire.
Is their resistance to do this some weird way of attracting more interest in their site ?
I ask that readers / contributors in this Forum keep emailing the ABD and keep asking the question. IS JARRETT IN ANY WAY INVOLVED ? AND IF SO, WHY?
Until a categorical denial from the ABD is published we all must continue to suspect that Jarrett is connected with the ABD.

Unfortunately and with reluctance I have deleted the ABD from my favourites list and will no longer use the site to gain any info regarding anything baseball. In light of the flat out refusal by ABD to address the concerns that have been raised directly with them I will also make it my business to not conduct any business nor refer any business toward any of ABD.s, Advertisers (e.g. Gary Whites, Diamond One) or supporters of this site, i.e. WordPress.com etc. If asked for advice regarding any purchasing or web hosting or information regarding Australian baseballers you can bet I wont be directing those enquiries toward the above businesses , in fact my advice will be one of caution and to voice my personal mistrust.

The ABD Facebook page has been out of action for about two weeks. It seems that it was "deactivated" by an unknown party and not as a result of the current police investigation.
That unknown party would appear to be Jarrett, who would be anxious to cover his tracks knowing that the baseball community and others were onto him.
Jarrett is a convicted and listed child sex offender who was warned off any involvement in Australian baseball (by the ABF) a couple of years ago.
I believe that the ABF has now informed state associations of the situation and indicates that it is assisting police with their investigations. Removal of the Facebook page may make investigations more difficult, especially because the Digest reporting service in itself may be perfectly legal.
Pending an outcome to the investigation, snoopy's approach is absolutely the correct way to go. Contact ABD, demand to know who is involved and what the hell is going on. Further than that, boycott the site and/or its apparent supporters (as perfeckt has done).
If you know people who comment on stories or ask questions on the ABD site, bring the allegations and the suspicions to their attention. If they want to continue to align themselves with the ABD and to offer encouragement to the mystery editor, then that is unfortunate. Nevertheless, it is their call - one that they would need to reconcile with their own conscience.

This Forum from time to time receives copies of correspondence and other material that has fallen off the back of a truck.
The ABF has updated the state associations and other interested parties. Rather than posting copies of any pertinent correspondence here - and thereby offering a heads-up to paedophiles and their supporters - we are putting trust in the state and regional bodies to alert their members and call for anyone with relevant information to come forward.
It is highly unlikely that Australian Baseball Digest and its associated activities (or planned activities) will have been orchestrated and managed by one person. Paedophiles are known to operate in networks, often under a guise of respectability in the community.
While any case against Jarrett and any associates is still to be proven, there is more than adequate circumstantial evidence to establish a likely connection with ABD and ABD Facebook.
Any individual or group that chooses to express its overt or implied support for Australian Baseball Digest - in view of the circumstances - is playing a dangerous game.

Perfeckt, whilst I completely understand your concerns, and can't speak to any of the other "supporters", I can assure you that Wordpress is a much bigger site than a small company giving free hosting for sponsorship. They're sites are build as you go, pay as you go, and they certainly wouldn't be monitoring anything like this forum to know any better...
A better bet would be to contact wordpress, via their website, and notify them of the potential issue with the site hosted with them... They may well take action based on the information they have, such as credit card information if you told them the name of the convicted peodo?

It's also very possible that ABD is (as are most wordpress blogs) hosted for free, though it's worth telling them just in case, I suppose. I wouldn't expect any response from any hosting provider or ISP without a police warrant, though.

Its official 'Australian Baseball Federation' you have lost me !!!!! As you know I have emailed you 6 times re this Jarrett bloke (providing you with my name as a 'member' etc) and I expressed my concerns as a parent of a young baseballer as to Jarrett's alleged actitivies of late, and I enquired of you as to what you (the ABF) were doing about all this. I emailed you on the 18/8 (no reply) the 29/8 (no reply) 30/8 (Hooray.. a reply on the 31/8 stating that Jarrett was 'banned from every element of our sport including ABF information & property' and that you were 'aware of rumours' and had 'alerted the appropriate authorities' - It was then signed off by 'The ABF' i.e no name offered which I find really unprofessional. I then ask a couple of questions arising, and my emails dated 31/8 & 5/9 & 7/9 are now also left unresponded too. So forget the response ABF, I have lost faith in the one organisation that controls our game on the National level and I am now one of a growing number of your critics !!!! And you might whinge about this Forum but I waited and waited for you to show me some confidence in your ability to administer our sport as it applies to this serious issue and you let me down, so I posted this (I wouldnt have if I had of been given some courtesy in terms of my 6 earlier requests of you). Its a shame really ...I am an avid fan of the game we all love, and I support the growth of OUR game by my actions and my words and this is your way or helping us help you hey ! Pfhhtttttt !

The Digest itself is a Word Press blog, authentic.
The associated Facebook page has for now been taken down, at somebody's request.
The Twitter account appears only to show updates from the Digest blog, although it had to have been opened by someone. Jarrett has his own separate Twitter account.
It is anybody's guess whether Jarrett or any of his supporters is trading as a business. He is cunning enough to utilise any means to help him pursue his own agenda.

Good find, racer. We were tempted to delete your post because it might give a heads-up to ABD personnel. But, shucks, let's those same people sweat on it now that details have been passed on. I wonder how long it will be before "Iva Adjuon" takes on another persona. The Forum will be watching, when and if that happens......

I've largely stayed out of discussions on this issue recently. I don't want to appear a smarta***, but I refer you back to the message with which this thread was started.
Back on 4 August. Five weeks ago. Now it seems that Jarrett and like-minded mates have taken a different tack through Facebook.
Yes, it is understandable that the police investigation might take a while, but how can the ABF treat people (like authentic) with such disdain? Why don't the ABF and the state bodies declare their hand on paedophiles in the sport?
Why does this Australian Baseball Digest continue to be treated with some sort of respect within the baseball community? What's the go with people defending the anonymous Editor or offered implied support by posting on the ABD website?
Do they know who and what they are supporting? Do they care? They bloody well should, on both counts.

Certainly not to play devils advocate too much, but I don't understand what the ABF is meant to do about the ABD?
What can they do/say? They can warn people against talking to him? yes. Have they? They can ban him from all ABF events? Yes. Have they? Yes.
How can the ABF be expected to police the internet to ensure the safety of our younger players? They don't have any rights to try to shutdown the ABD site. ANYONE can start a blog. Its got nothing to do with the ABF. Its not hosted on the ABF site. Its not supported by the ABF. About the only real recourse that the ABF has is to ban any sponsors associated with the site from sponsoring the ABF or associates.
What else are we really expecting the ABF to do to get rid of this site? There is nothing that can be done!
If we want to keep the kids at college/minors safe from a predator, then educating them about this guy (who we all believe is running this site) is the way to go. Teach them to ask for credentials before answering questions, get them to find out who their speaking to, and from what site.
The ABF can't stop a website from publishing information they source themselves. We can't expect them to somehow miraclously find a way to stop Jarrett from calling/emailing kids he locates the contact details for. We can report the suspect sites to their hosts (i.e. facebook, twitter, wordpress), but anything more then that and there is no juristiction...
