Massive next few days for the Aces, after a big series against the BlueSox and with results going all over the joint in other States of late we are just 2.5 games off the top of the ladder.
Win at least 4 of 6 this next week and we will be very well placed for the short post Xmas end of the season !
Also re Stats, shame the 'League Leaders' and the Aces 'Leaders' tab on the websites dont show the averages of Grant (Karlson) 0.359 and Kamei at 0.425 - and he is on fire ATM.
Seems they come just under the 2.7 AB per game criteria but in Grants case that surely more to do with resting him from catching too often. The guy has been consistantly good all year IMO.

Another statistical anomoly (to me at least).
The Heat starter today (McCurry) left the game with a 8-1 lead 1-out into the bottom of the 5th and he didnt get the 'Win' against Canberra, the reliever (Grice who piched 2.2 digs) did in what was a 8-1 win ?
I gather it was because he didnt go 5 (perhaps?) but it was a 7 inning game ?

Yeah, it doesn't seem quite fair, but the rules are pretty clear - a starter must go 5 innings, unless the game ends after 5, in which case he needs to go four.

Thanks DF - I understand how historical statistical analysis is and how it needs to be the same throughout time but with so many 7 inning game in the ABL maybe we should have another stat that rewards starting pitchers in 7 inning games like this one.
I mean the reliever comes in and the game is 8-1, he pitches 2.2inn and the game ends 8-1 and HE gets the Win ?

Although it hasn't been posted on the ABL or Aces website just yet, I believe that Sunday's game against the Cavalry has been put back (from 4.00 PM) to start at 6.00 PM because of a delayed flight from Canberra.

May turn out to be a good thing as Melb is just about to get a bucket load of rain dropped on it.

I have to say that I agree with Chardy, let the local guys play with their local clubs and make it a real pro league. Import all the players and then let them play an 80 game season.
That will leave the local leagues in every state able to keep their teams stable and everything will be okay for the people who want to knock the ABL and everything associated with it.
Ask yourself this question "What will happen if and when they expand the number of games to say 60 or 80" how will any local club player be able to play in the ABL then and hold down a job?

Does it matter who plays. As long as we've got a strong local leagueand a strong national league. The more pro the league gets more money, the players will be able to commit.

Wow - After giving up what seemingly was a very un-earned run in the 1st the Aces have jumped out of the box well and lead 7-1 in the 3rd and guess what ... Karlsen and Kamei in the thick of it again !

Journeyman - that wasn't the point I was making at all.
I want the local guys to play. I'm just tired of people finding something to complain about.
For years people complained that we lost the ABL and now we have it back they are just looking to complain about the number of games or when those games are being played or even where and the size of the diamond they are playing on.
Just be happy the league is back.

Hats off to young Daniel McGrath making his debut as a 16 y/o for the Aces today. Looking at the box score, he had a fantastic first up appearence

Threw very very well MC15, though Canberra was certainly elsewhere given they were down by plenty but he had plenty of heat and when he got the curve spot on he was devistating.
Needs to wear his hat properly though.

Crookhead, Was out at the game yesterday and this kid is legit..for a 16 year old, he had poise beyond his years and can throw hard with a nasty hook.... very delibrate in his delivery but then the ball just jumps on you..
May see you at the park tonite
