South Australia Crush is not bad, with the connection to wine-growing (and other potential imagery).
In the same vein......Southern Stompers ;D

Adelaide Raiders sounds good but it might be seen as politically incorrect - ie Invasion of Aboriginals.
Something that could be turned into a decent logo and strong branding is the key.
Some type of lizard would be the best since they could be turned into a decent logo, ie a lizard holding a bat. the adelaide blue tongues.
they live in adelaide and have a minor league feel to it - and the ABL is the minor leagues anyway now that we have been acquired by MLB.
The other choice is Adelaide Thorny Devils but this rhymes with "horny devils" so its not worth it.

How about the "Adelaide Tiger Woodies"?... should sell well and be popular with the ladies.. ;D ;D

Has anyone but me noticed that the name the team website allows every state but SA to put their name and email details on the form? www.nameyourteam.baseball.com.au/

Has anyone but me noticed that the name the team website allows every state but SA to put their name and email details on the form? www.nameyourteam.baseball.com.au/I'm fairly certain SA has different laws regarding lottery/chance type competitions. If you read the fine print on a lot of competition details you'll often see residents of SA subject to different entry requirements. As for names I like Adelaide Blue-Tongues, I had been contemplating Skinks as a potential nickname for a team, but think the more specific Blue-Tongues is much better.

I agree with your comment deadfish, but my point is that if you want to enter the competition then you can't put your details on your entry. Which means that you can't win a prize if they aren't able to identify who you are, even SA's raffle laws allow you to identify yourself to win a prize, you just don't in most cases have to have proof of purchase.

ADELAIDE FLOATERS
In the old ABL days there was nothing better than heading to the Norwood Pie Cart for a Pie Floater after watching a quality game at Norwood Oval. Ohh the memories!!!!

the memories are a reality again. myself and a few mates knocked off a floater after friday night's win against the heat. the condiments selection was second to none. the blue tongues has minor league written all over it ! i wonder if we get to keep beard and collins next year when ACT enter the league? beard is our closer at the moment - ough is on the 15 day DL list.

Ahhh, the floaters.....a true after Norwood tradition sadly missed over the years!!
As for the team name i can only suggest that anything would be better than the "Rhino's"!!

Adelaide Blue Tongues... they live all over Australia, not unique to SA, if we were to say Shingleback (still a blue tongue) or Stumpytailed, then it would be more an SA thing, but SA Stumpytails....just doesn't work!
I'm liking SA Crush...we do have 3 world famous wine regions...crush works for baseball...and its got a minor league feel as you say billybaroo. Yes wine is made everywhere but SA is famous for it.

Espn I agree Crush is good, blue tongues is not good.
How about Adelaide Defenders?
Adelaide is one of the defense hubs of Australia with the Sub Corp and DSTO at Edinburgh along with other manafacturers like BAE Systems and General Dynamics.
It works for me, but I still like Crush.

Yes I agree SA Crush is a cool name - ie, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, McLaren/Willunga etc etc
it's not on the "Name Your ABL Team" Short List..... have already voted for Blue Tongues.
I might get my wife to vote for the Crush as it is a good name for a baseball team no doubt about that..... done - the new ABL is going to be awesome - can't wait - hopefully we will retain Norwood Oval as it the most central location for everybody in Adelaide.

Adelaide Dirtbags is a classic baseball name eagle1 and I love it, always have as you know. It's a "real" baseball nickname. If you want to know the reason for CalState Long Beach being called the "Dirtbags" then check out the link, www.longbeachstate.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/dirtbagmeaning.htmlColours Black, Antique Gold and White.

At the Capps Medal presentation on Wednesday night (won by the deserving Dan Wilson after a very good domestic season), GM Pat Kelly told the audience that the new name should be announced soon, it is currently going through legals etc. then he said that the colours would probably be the same!!
What a lost opportunity if that happens, it is a great chance to come up with something else and have a whole "new" identity for the team. Every other Adelaide team from a National League sport has the same colours, what better chance to get a step up on all of them.

I agree Journeyman, a lost opportunity and I think each team should steer clear of anything from the last ABL. New all the way... I say!

You take a sausage and you can deep fry it, you can boil it, you can BBQ it, you can leave it raw......what ever you do with it my friend guess what it is now.....correct, it's still a sausage Good Luck to the new SA sausages. WOOF

Come on Davo, I know you read this forum, get them to get something happening with the name and the colours!
The whole thing is dragging on, especially since PK told the Capps Medal audience that it would all be revealed "in the next few weeks".
Sorry, but that was four weeks ago and still we hear Nothing!

It has been some time since I have been on the forum and see that it is very active still which is great. The team name is coming soon, the reason for the delay has been that it has been with the MLB Legal department in New York. They want to make sure they cover all bases so to speak, and that all 6 team names are signed off on and can be announced publicly in one big launch. Rest assured the name is on its way, and with that will be a logo, new colours, hats etc etc Stay tuned.
