BASEBALL SA HAVE LOST THE PLOT!

So a 21 year old Division 5 player is now being held to a transfer fee of $2500.00.

Baseball SA will not let him go to Tribunal, the guy had equipment stolen last year, no coaching and wishes to play higher and learn, but Baseball SA have advised he is not allowed to play for a new club without paying the transfer fee.

Another one lost to baseball....stay hot Baseball SA!

Hmm By-Laws.. If a player has lived here for over 2 years, 38y years old, pays to play baseball, works and pays taxes to the Australian government but is treated as an import?
A player plays for a club for 3 games then gets put on the required players list, now to change clubs there is a transfer fee?
Yes to all those....

Should a club that isn't classified as div1 be allowed to tie up players by putting them on a required players list?
I could be wrong but surely the spirit of the game isn't to restrict social player movement, which is what happens if a non div1 club ties it's players up by being able to put them on a list.

It almost echoes the old reserve clause from MLB before free agency. In a nutshell it means that any player is the "property" of the club they have signed with and cannot leave until the club sees fit to get rid of them, or someone pays what their club sees as a "fair" price. Now that may have been okay back in the old days and in professional sport, but it is hardly fair to treat an amateur that way.

espn, there is no doubt there needs to be some adjustements to the current way it is run

how about now that your case and that of others has been stated that you come up with a way to make it work

my suggestion would be to have no transfer fee at all and if players want to go then show them the door, or if they want more opportunity at a higher level and your club cannot provide it then give it to them or let them find it elsewhere

if a player, who is not owned by the club, and pays his own way, wants to move then he should be allowed to, and if a player i good enough to command or be offered some sort of remuneration for his talents then let him

lets move out of the dark ages and see the light!!!!

Couldn't agree more tywebb that no transfer fee at all is required. If your backyard is in order people shouldn't want to leave...and if they choose to, why hold them back. We are all in it for the sport (some clearly not).

But...are we the majority or minority. Are most happy with it?

I was just fully informed about this situation can you confirm espn, so i have it right.
A player from a club that can only play div5 the highest level at his club wants to play at another club at a higher level but the league wont let him.
$2500 for a div5 player????????????
It sounds like the league and the club involved need to get a clue.
Do they know how other states run their leagues, guess not!

Yes ballsnall a Division 5 player is being held to a transfer of over $2500.00. This "kid" has never player state baseball, best he has ever done is played some Division 3 when the club had a team in that Division.

Transfer Fees were introduced to protect those clubs that develop...the player in question has had no development...he even had to buy his own baseballs to train with as the club didn't provide some. The current system doesn't look after players like him and its wrong!

This is an absolute joke - I only heard about this on the weekend and seeing these threads have confirmed my discussion.
I understand the club in question is only trying to receive what the system believes he is worth, but surely a bit of common sense should prevail here and they should be happy to compromise & take a reduced fee before we lose another player from this great game!

I can tell you now that SABL have lost more than just a few players over arrogance with stupidity, one thing to remember is that it also carries down to their siblings. WAKE UP!!!!
Was said that "yet to see benefits of imports", well to the person that said that I would not let him coach my dog to sit. Now they ask clubs to use their imports for the Claxton Shield WTF! maybe return some of the monies that have been flushed down the drain then we can put it back into juniors (remember them SABL?) and grounds.
Usually whether business or sports, failure means dismissal. Start with the top and work your way down.
